<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Technical Advisory Group (TAG) is Seeking Expression of Interest</h2>The Limestone District School Board is seeking expressions of interest from <a href="about:blank" class="editor-link">individuals</a><a href="#_msocom_1" class="editor-link">[EL1]</a>  interested in joining the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) in support of the ongoing Student Census 2025 project.The purpose of the Technical Advisory Group is to provide advice, perspectives, and recommendations related to the design of data collection methods, analysis, and the representation of results for LDSB’s Student Census. TAG plays a critical role in ensuring that multiple and diverse perspectives are applied to the interpretation of data, helping to minimize bias and strengthen the relevance and integrity of findings.We are seeking expressions of interest for the committee for the September 2026 to August 2028 term.  We welcome expressions of interest from all members of the Limestone community, including those who can help us fill the following vacancies:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">One to two parents of a Limestone student(s) who is not an employee of the LDSB</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">A Limestone school administrator</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">One or more Limestone secondary students</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">One community partner member who works alongside LDSB</li></ul>Experience in data collection, analysis, and/or reporting of identity‑based data is encouraged; however, individuals with a broad range of research or analysis backgrounds and/or lived experiences are encouraged to apply. This online course takes about 7 hours to complete, and costs are covered by the LDSB.<h3 class="editor-heading-h3">How to express interest:</h3>Individuals interested in joining TAG are invited to submit an expression of interest outlining relevant experience, perspectives, and interest in the work. Our grade 3 and grade 6 students will spend a few periods in class over the next two weeks, taking part in the Ministry mandated EQAO assessments. Teachers have been diligent in teaching the curriculum through meaningful and explicit practice to build student growth and understanding in all topics related to Literacy and Math. We are confident that our students are always well prepared at Henderson to undertake these assessments. Please note that EQAO will not be scheduled for Monday, June 1st as it is Ontario Day. Class Placements Our team ensures that exceptional care and thought are put into every student's class placement. This process involves months of observation and understanding about academic and social learning. In June, all staff get together and add insight into each child's placement, including academics, peer groups, dynamics, etc. Should parents/guardians have information they feel is key when placing their child, they are invited to submit remarks or requests to brennanka@limestone.on.ca. While requests are not guaranteed, we may use information from families to support decision making. The deadline for submitting a class placement request is Friday May 29th.Spring Fling is Coming! 2026 05 14 Community Foundation Grant for Summer Math and Literacy

LDSB Receives $25,000 Grant to Support Elementary Summer Learning

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) has received a $25,000 grant through the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area’s Community Grants Program in support of its Elementary Summer Literacy and Math Program.The three-week program supports Limestone students finishing Senior Kindergarten to Grade 3 by strengthening foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics to help set students up for success in the following school year.Grant funding will be used to purchase literacy and math learning resources and to create family engagement packages. These take-home resources are designed to support learning at home and encourage families to engage in literacy and math activities alongside their students.The LDSB is grateful to the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area for their generous support, helping students across the district access this important summer learning opportunity.

See you on Tuesday!Njacko Backo ConcertsToday, all students enjoyed a concert put on by a bilingual artist from Cameroon! Njacko Backo performed songs and dances in both French and English during an interactive concert for our K-3 and 4-8 classes. Students and staff alike got to enjoy singing, dancing and playing instruments during the event. This week was filled with learning moments and laughter, as we honoured Mental Health Week. As per usual, there are lots of updates to share. Enjoy this week's newsletter! Garden Volunteers With the sunny spring here, we would LOVE to have a few volunteers help weed and tidy the front garden. Our Eco Committee is starting a lunch time weeding for parents/guardians - rain or shine! Bring your own gloves and weeders :-) May 11th from 12pm to 1pm May 25th from 12pm to 1pm June 8th from 12pm to 1pm Class Placements Our team ensures that exceptional care and thought are put into every student's class placement. This process involves months of observation and understanding about academic and social learning. In June, all staff get together and add insight into each child's placement, including academics, peer groups, dynamics, etc. Should parents/guardians have information they feel is key when placing their child, they are invited to submit remarks or requests to brennanka@limestone.on.ca. While requests are not guaranteed, we may use information from families to support decision making. The deadline for submitting a class placement request is Friday May 29th.Spring Fling is Coming! If you're a seasoned Hawk, you may know that this event is one to attend! This process involves months of observation and understanding about academic and social learning. In June, all staff get together and add insight into each child's placement, including academics, peer groups, dynamics, etc. Should parents/guardians have information they feel is key when placing their child, they are invited to submit remarks or requests to brennanka@limestone.on.ca. While requests are not guaranteed, we may use information from families to support decision making. The deadline for submitting a class placement request is Friday May 29th.Track and Field Day What a day! The weather cooperated and students had a blast participating in a variety of fun outdoor athletic activities. During this week, our Belong and Believe students will help spread awareness about mental health and the importance of feeling connected, included, and supported at school.This year’s national theme is “Come Together, Canada – Stronger Connections. This was the first full week in nearly a month so we suspect Hawks may be feeling tired this weekend :) We continue to bring forward fun events, valuable learning and cooperative education. Please see updates below. Track and Field Day We are pleased to let families know that Thursday April 30th is Henderson Track and Field Fun Day for Grades 3+. This day involves a rotation of outdoor stations to keep students active, as well as exposing students to new and old track activities. Please be sure students bring weather-appropriate clothing. Should the forecast be very rainy, the rain date will be Friday May 1st. We look forward to sharing photos with you!Learning Commons Updates We have noticed an increase in books being returned wet. We know it's been a rainy spring but ask families help in ensuring books are sent to school in a dry section of the backpack. Mental Health Week: Belonging, Connection, and Awareness Mental Health Week takes place from May 4 to May 10. During this week, our Belong and Believe students will help spread awareness about mental health and the importance of feeling connected, included, and supported at school.This year’s national theme is “Come Together, Canada – Stronger Connections. Better Mental Health.” This theme reminds us that positive relationships, belonging, and connection play an important role in student well‑being.Throughout the week, students will take part in:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">School and grade‑level assemblies</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Classroom activities focused on mental health</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Student‑led discussions about kindness, inclusion, and support</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Opportunities to learn how to ask for help and support others</li></ul>Our goal is to raise awareness, encourage open conversations, and help break the stigma around mental health. By coming together as a school community, we can help all students feel seen, valued, and supported.We look forward to a meaningful Mental Health Week and appreciate the care and leadership our students show in supporting one another.Road Races Road Race season is in full swing! Students in Grades 3–8 have been training during afternoon recess on Mondays and Wednesdays, and we’re thrilled to have over 100 runners participating this season. Mme Gallupe, Mme Martin, Mme MacKay, and Mme Fournier have been cheering them on every step of the way.The Bayridge Road Race will take place on Tuesday, April 28, and the LCVI Road Race will take place on Wednesday, May 6. Upcoming Family Engagement and Climate Survey

The Limestone District School Board is inviting families to take part in the Family Engagement and Climate Survey. This survey gives families an opportunity to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.The feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. It also supports schools and school councils in building welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities.The survey includes questions about:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">How schools communicate and share information</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Whether families feel welcome, included, and connected</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Barriers to taking part in school activities, such as time, childcare, language, accessibility, or cost</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Safety and bullying, including reporting and follow‑up</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Licensed Before and After School Programs, including questions to help inform future planning</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">Some questions ask about family background to help us better understand different experiences across our communities</li></ul>Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Families may skip any questions they choose. No names or identifying information are collected. Results are shared only as grouped summaries and are used to support learning, planning, and improvement at the board, school, and school council levels.The survey will be open from May 1 to May 11 and will be available online. Families will receive an e-mail on May 1 with a link to the survey. Paper copies will also be available at your school’s administrative office starting May 1.The survey was developed with input from families and advisory committees, including the Parent Involvement Committee, to reflect a wide range of perspectives.
