This week was filled with love, celebration, learning and fun. We were blown away by the donations that were made to the food bank, as well as the outstanding turnout and support at our 2nd annual Spring Concert. PD Day Reminder Tomorrow, Friday April 17th is a PD Day and there is no school for students. Give 30 Food Drive The donations this year were beyond appreciated! Your support in helping our community make a difference is remarkable. Way to go, Hawks! We are only two weeks away from this family-friendly event right here at JR Henderson. We are so proud of Hawks for taking the stage and showcasing their talents. We also want to extend our utmost thanks to the JR Henderson PS team. Teachers, ECEs, EAs and support staff all rallied together to ensure nearly 600 students had the opportunity to take the stage and have a moment to shine and perform for well over 1,500 people this week. As we cruise into the sunshine, please enjoy the updates below. Spring Concert Reminder We are almost there! As a reminder, our Spring Concert series is next week. We are very excited to showcase our talents for you. The schedule is as follows: Tuesday April 14th - Kindergarten concert at 2pm Wednesday April 15th - Grade 1 to 3 Spring concert at 2pm Thursday April 16th - Grade 4 to 8 Spring concert at 2pmFamilies are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item as a donation for entry.For dismissal, students cannot be collected from the office. All classes will immediately proceed to their normal dismissal spot following the concert, should families wish to pick up their children before the dismissal bell. Give 30 Food Drive For the third year running, the Henderson community will be supporting the Give 30 campaign. The Give 30 campaign raises awareness about the local foodbank while also showing students that small ideas can lead to big successes! Our student leaders are helping to educate the community about food insecurity while doing something great within Kingston. You can read more about Give 30 in <a href="https://www.kingstonist.com/news/annual-give-30-campaign-supports-partners-in-mission-food-bank-for-13th-year/" rel="noreferrer" class="editor-link" dir="ltr">this</a> media release.From April 7th to April 16th, we will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Partners in Mission Food Bank. As part of our collection, we are encouraging students to bring food items to school. To complete CPIC requests through Kingston Police services, wait times can be long (months) so please ensure you plan ahead if you are interested in volunteering for upcoming trips. The school was buzzing with excitement, with the warmer weather and long weekend ahead. We continue to be impressed with the hard work our Hawks are putting in every day. We are so fortunate to be a part of this community. With the arrival of April, there are lots of exciting events on the go. Please be sure to read the newsletter weekly to keep updated. Long Weekend Reminder As a reminder, JR Henderson is closed tomorrow, Friday April 3rd, as well as Monday April 6th. We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday April 7th. As well, April 17th is a PD Day and there is no school for students. Autism Awareness Day - We All Shine Differently - Linked by Our Strengths On Thursday April 2nd, Henderson celebrated World Autism Day. Not only today but everyday we engage in conversations around the importance of differences and celebrating our individual strengths. Today, we created a display board and a whole-school paperchain. When we link our strengths together, we create a beautiful display of diverse talents in our school. This school-wide activity helps us understand and include everyone -including friends who may think, learn, or experience the world differently. The Give 30 campaign raises awareness about the local foodbank while also showing students that small ideas can lead to big successes! Our student leaders are helping to educate the community about food insecurity while doing something great within Kingston. You can read more about Give 30 in <a href="https://www.kingstonist.com/news/annual-give-30-campaign-supports-partners-in-mission-food-bank-for-13th-year/" rel="noreferrer" class="editor-link">this</a> media release.From April 7th to April 16th, we will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Partners in Mission Food Bank. As part of our collection, we are encouraging students to bring food items to school. As well, we are encouraging parents and caregivers to bring donations to our Spring Concert.    <img src="/images/b5e2b928-ec09-46b6-8e6b-d983ca04a703" alt="Give 30 Poster" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block">Volunteers Support our Spring Clean Up Fix 'N Clean is a non-profit, twice-yearly event run by the Queen’s University Engineering Society (EngSoc) that connects student volunteers with Kingston community members for free yard work to strengthen town-grown relations. To complete CPIC requests through Kingston Police services, wait times can be long (months) so please ensure you plan ahead if you are interested in volunteering for upcoming trips. We always appreciate the help! Public Health Southeast Each month, Public Health Southeast focuses on an important topic to share with families. This month, they are focusing on protecting children from harmful substances. Welcome to James R. Henderson Public School, a dual-track school located in the west end of Kingston. We offer programming in English from Kindergarten to Grade 8 and French Immersion for students in Kindergarten to Grade 6. Dear Families,As we enter the spring season and final third of the school year, we are reminded of this season’s promise of renewal and growth, and the key role schools and families have together in supporting student learning and well-being. This time of <a href="about:blank" class="editor-link">year</a> brings many opportunities for learning both inside and outside of the classroom, along with the return of outdoor extracurricular activities. While this week has been very wet and rainy, the warmer temperatures of spring are upon us.  I would like to take this opportunity to share a few important updates with you:P.A. Day – Friday, April 17A reminder to families that tomorrow, Friday, April 17, is a P.A. Day. There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in MayIn early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. Reviewing and analyzing this information helps support safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environments and supports the board’s obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The findings support planning and decision-making that promotes equity, well being, and student success across Limestone schools. An overview of the Student Census 2025 was presented to the Board of Trustees at last night’s board meeting. In fact, Limestone is performing at or above the provincial average in nearly all measures.These results reflect the collective efforts of Limestone educators, Educational Assistants, program teams, and school leaders—supported by the ongoing commitment of students and families across our district.
