2026/27 JR Henderson Weekly Update #11
Friday, November 6th, 2026
Hello Henderson Families,
Happy Friday families. What a warm, sunny week! We have been embracing the gorgeous weather this week and Hawks have been outside enjoying the sunshine. As we cruise into November, we have many exciting events and activities on the horizon. See below for information about our holiday fundraiser, Kindness Week and more.
United Way Tattoo Fundraiser
James R. Henderson is proud to support United Way! Our school-wide goal is to raise $3,000 to help make a difference in our community.
Families will find an option to donate through School Day until November 27th. As a thank you for supporting this important cause, students will earn temporary tattoos based on their donation:
- $1 donation = 1 temporary tattoo
- $5+ donation = a full strip of temporary tattoos
On December 11th, students will have the opportunity to use their temporary tattoos to tattoo staff during a special school-wide United Way event. Henderson Staff have generously agreed to be tattooed by students to support this fun fundraiser!
The class that raises the most money will earn the exciting opportunity to tattoo Mme Brennan!
Thank you for helping us reach our goal of $3,000 and for supporting the important work of United Way in our community. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference!
To donate, please go to School Day -> School Items (left side tab) -> Services -> United Way Tattoo Fundraiser and choose your donation amount. Any amount can be added.

Clubs, Extra-curriculars and more!
We are busy at JR Henderson during lunchtime with so many clubs and activities running. Volleyball has just started and it has been a big success. All students in Grades 4 through 8 are welcome to try out for volleyball! There will be Sr 7-8 tryouts and Jr 4-6 tryouts coming soon. Our announcements let students know when to attend. As well, we're starting a Drama Club with Ms Raike. We are also starting the Lexia Club for Grade 3s twice per week for any keen students who want to get their reading levels up. Quiet Space, Art Space continues, as does Choir. A huge thank you to our amazing team who make these many extra-curriculars happen every day!
Roofing Update
You may have noticed that Amherst Roofing has been busy at work this week at JR Henderson PS. Amherst will be onsite for several weeks, until our roofing has been replaced in key areas. Metal crews are very familiar with working safely on school roofs while school is in session.
Community Resources - UMOJA Hub
The Umoja Hub in Kingston is a community gathering place and programming space grounded in Afrocentric service delivery for Black and Francophone families. Below is information about upcoming events. The link to register for the Criminal Justice Workshop is: Register for Criminal Justice Workshop.
Curriculum Evening - Save the Date
We are delighted to let you know that we are once again doing the Curriculum Evening Open House. Our dedicated educators put together stations in classrooms to help teach parents and families strategies that can be used at home to support learning. The evening is fun, engaging and family-focused. We hope you can join us!
Hot Lunch Reminder
This year, we have Subs on Tuesdays and Pizza on Thursdays. Go to https://www.lunchboxorders.net Your login and password would be the same if you participated last year, or go ahead and create one if you didn't. You will have to create your student again and match them to their new teacher.
