Hello Henderson Families,

Henderson was looking a little spook-tacular this week as students had a blast celebrating Spooky Week! From festive fun to plenty of Halloween spirit, the excitement could be felt throughout the school and brought lots of smiles, squeals, and just the right amount of fright!

Spooky Festivities Were A Hoot!
Every day this week, our amazing team had something spooky up their sleeves! Tuesday, students participated in the Web of Wonder - Guess the Number. Every student used their estimation skills to determine how many spooky items were on the Halloween-themed display. Wednesday, we played whole-school trivia called Name That Sound. Eerie! The gym was also alive with amazing activities and our big buddies led their younger buddies through the fun maze of games. Thursday was the IST Spooky Walk and Friday was some fun announcements, and a spirit day. What a week!

🎃👻 Our Frightfully Fun Haunted House Adventure! 👻🎃
Muawahahah! Things got a little boo-nanas at Henderson during Spooky Week, and our students loved every minute of it! The IST Haunted Walk was a frightfully fun favourite, with plenty of screams, laughs, and brave souls making their way through. We’re happy to report that everyone survived... although a few staff members may still be recovering! A HUGE thank you to our amazing IST students and Ms Wood for making this happen.

Learning Commons Renovations
For the past two weeks, our Learning Commons has been closed for some exciting renovations. We replaced some of the old shelving with new, more accessible shelving. The room is also being touched up, tiles fixed, walls and cupboards painted, and the whole space has been refreshed. We would like to take a moment to thank our AMAZING volunteers, namely Hillary, Emily and Sara, for helping to lead this great project. We appreciate each and every volunteer who has come to support our evolving Learning Commons over the past few years. It is truly a warm, well-loved space at Henderson. Library book borrowing is back up and running and the space looks amazing!

Staff Trick or Treat
This week, Council members also visited classes and offered staff a "treat" off the resource cart. These resources were donated by families earlier this year and staff were truly grateful for the additional class items. Thank you to everyone who contributed!

Roofing Update
You may have noticed that Amherst Roofing has been busy at work this week at JR Henderson PS. Amherst will be onsite for several weeks, until our roofing has been replaced in key areas. Metal crews are very familiar with working safely on school roofs while school is in session.

Secret Staff Spirit Day
On Wednesday, you may have noticed that some staff looked a bit...different. Staff had a "secret staff spirit day", where we came wigged up and ready to teach! We feel truly fortunate to work alongside such fun, dynamic and dedicated educators who make this a positive workplace and a beautiful place to learn and grow. We hope you feel the same :)

Curriculum Evening - Save the Date
We are delighted to let you know that we are once again doing the Curriculum Evening Open House. Our dedicated educators put together stations in classrooms to help teach parents and families strategies that can be used at home to support learning. The evening is fun, engaging and family-focused. We hope you can join us!

Our Food Share Program
Did you know that every single day at Henderson, food bags are prepared for all of our 24 classes with healthy nutritious snacks donated by The Food Sharing Project? These bags include fruit, vegetables, bagels, cheese, eggs, and more, and are available to any student - stigma free - to enjoy if they are hungry! If you're interested in learning more about The Food Sharing Project, see here: https://www.foodsharingproject.org/
