JR Henderson Weekly Update #12 - November 21st, 2025Screenshot 2025 09 10 060314

Good afternoon Henderson Families,

What a busy week of learning and excitement. It was wonderful to see so many faces at Wednesday's Curriculum evening. As well, Hawks showed their support for Kindness Week by wearing pink and showing their love for all.

Jingle Bell Food Drive & Walk, Run or Wheel
Our Jingle Bell Food Drive & Walk, Run or Wheel is coming up! On Friday December 5th, all Henderson students will be getting some extra physical activity and walking around the neighborhood, wearing bells and jingling all the way.

In honour of this fun event, starting Monday December 1st, we are also collecting  new, canned or sealed, pre-packaged, food items that will be donated to the Partners in Mission Food Bank. Please double check the expiry date on all products to ensure that items donated are not past the best before date for consumption. Classes will keep a tally and see who can raise the most for people in need.

Winter Fundraiser
This year we have once again partnered with Cocoa Bistro, a local owned and operated business, for our winter fundraiser. Proceeds from the sales through their online portal will be given back to the school community. Enjoy a sweet treat or spread the love to others while also supporting our Hawks! The fundraiser opens on November 24th and the last day to order will be December 10th. Order through the website https://cocoabistro.ca/ and select "levé de fonds JR Henderson Fundraiser" at the checkout. Goodies will be delivered to Henderson on December 16th. We will send the treats home with the students or hold them for pick up should you wish. Happy shopping!

Movie Nights:
Students have been voting all week and the winners are:
- Home Alone for Thursday November 27th
- Minecraft- Friday November 28th
The movies start at 6pm in the Gym. Doors open at 5:30. Bring pillows, PJs, cushions, whatever you need to feel comfy. Admission is free with no need to RSVP. No pizza for sale, however a snack canteen will have many inexpensive things for purchase including drinks, chips, popcorn.

REMINDER: DO NOT FORGET A KID HOME ALONE!!!

Attendance Matters!
We recognize that, as the weather changes, attendance can become trickier. Student attendance is our priority and we are happy to work with individual families to develop plans to improve attendance. We have a great deal of supportive strategies so please reach out!

Calling on all Hawks! Appel à tous les Hawks!
We need your artistic talents! Our school will be creating a Hawks mural with help from our friends at Frontenac Secondary School. The theme is: What does it mean to be a Hawk?

If you have a vision, please sketch, color, and submit your design by Friday, November 28th. Submissions should be on 8 x 11 white paper and can be created at home or in class. Please give your artwork to your homeroom teacher. We are also looking for a bilingual slogan (English and French) to add to our mural. Have a catchy Hawk slogan in mind? Submit your slogan by Friday, November 28th to your homeroom teacher.

We can’t wait to see your creativity and the amazing end result of our new Hawks mural! Nous avons hâte de voir votre créativité et le résultat incroyable de notre nouvelle murale des Hawks !

Choices at 7
It's already that time of the year. Families interested in Choices at 7 should see here and reach out to admin with any questions.

Toevember
This November, Henderson is excited to participate in Toevember, a community fundraiser that helps people in need stay warm during the winter months. We’re collecting new socks of all sizes and styles for children, teens, and adults.

Donations can be sent with your child to school throughout the month of November. Many thanks for your contributions - every pair of socks will help someone stay cozy and comfortable this season.

To celebrate the amazing contributions of Hawks, we will also celebrate Silly Sock Day on Friday November 28th.

Lunch Support
We are currently seeking someone who is available from 10:55am until 1:55pm every day to support yard, lunch and student supervision. If interested, contact brennanka@limestone.on.ca to learn more.

French Fridays!
Starting next Friday, we are encouraging all Hawks to engage in as much French as possible on Fridays. We are extending this to parents/guardians and staff too. Not great at French? That's okay! It's a part of learning!

Curriculum Evening
What a success! We had around 230 attendees on Wednesday evening for our most attended Curriculum Evening yet! From tangrams to UFLI, learning was had. A huge thank you to our amazing team for making this night possible and to School Council for providing delicious snacks.

Reminder About Parking Areas
As the weather changes, more families may choose to drive to and from school. Please remember that stopping in school bus loading zones or no-stopping areas can result in high parking fines. Bylaw encourages families to respect posted signage and use alternative locations for pick-up and drop-off.

Hot Lunch Reminder
As a reminder, if you haven't yet, be sure to order hot lunch through https://www.lunchboxorders.net. We are offering subs on Tuesdays and pizza on Thursdays. Money raised from hot lunch goes directly back into our school community to support athletics, learning materials, student initiatives and more. Orders are due Sunday at noon for the following week. Finally, if buses are cancelled because of the weather, hot lunch will be cancelled as well. If you have questions, please email jrhschoolcouncil@gmail.com

School Council
The next School Council meeting is on Wednesday January 28th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Free childcare will be available. Don’t forget - here’s the School Council email address: JRHSchoolCouncil@gmail.com School Council looks forward to hearing feedback and voices from all Henderson community members.
