JR Henderson Weekly Update #20 - January 29th, 2026
Good afternoon Henderson Families,
Despite Monday’s snow day closure, our week at JR Henderson has been filled with meaningful learning and wonderful energy. As we head into tomorrow’s PA Day, we’re proud of all the great work happening in our classrooms. We also have many exciting events on the horizon, so be sure to check out the info below.
PA Day
As a reminder, tomorrow is a Professional Activity Day and there is no school for students.
Valentine's Day
In addition to our KCHC fundraiser, we will also be encouraging students to wear red, pink and white on Friday, February 13th.
Important Traffic Reminders
Please ensure that you do not obstruct the crosswalk at the bus bay. This poses a significant risk to our wonderful crossing guard Norm and all students and families crossing the street. Please also be sure that if you park in front of the school, you do not obstruct the accessible parking space outside of the gym/parking lot.
KHSC Candygram Fundraiser
This Valentine’s Day, the Henderson community is looking to give love to those in need. As such, we are selling candygrams from today, Friday January 23rd to Friday February 6th. The cost is $1 per candygram. Students will fill in a kind message for a friend or staff and we will attach a candy to the message. These will be delivered the day before Valentine’s Day, Friday February 13th.
All of the profits from this activity will be used to purchase 20 gift baskets for children who will be in KHSC on Valentine’s Day, so that those not in school still feel love and warmth on this day. This initiative has been planned in consultation with their pediatric unit. We would also like to note that the school will purchase a candygram for each student so every single Hawk will receive a candygram on February 13th. How can parents/guardians get involved?
- Encourage your student to send candygrams. The cost is $1 per candygram and 100% of the profits will support KHSC pediatric in-patients
- If you prefer to make a small donation, please contact jrhen@limestone.on.ca
- If you know a company or business who may donate small individually wrapped candy (small smarties packs, lollipops, etc), please contact jrhen@limestone.on.ca
Breakfast Program
If your child is hungry upon arriving to school, we continue to run our breakfast program. This involves students entering at 9:15am to a breakfast waiting on their desk. If this is something you are interested in, please let us know at jrhen@limestone.on.ca and we'll be in touch.
Kindergarten Registration
It's already that time of the year! We are delighted to let families know that our Kindergarten registration process is underway for 2026/2027. See here for more information. Please spread the word about the great things happening at Henderson. We saw increased Kinder enrolment last year and want to keep this going!
Vaccinations through KFLA Southeast
KFLA Southeast (formally Public Health) have opened several appointment slots at their clinic on January 30, during the PA day, for students who require routine vaccinations. These appointments will help ensure students remain up to date and avoid suspension in April. See below for more information:
Grade 5 through 8 Full Day Learning Conference
On Tuesday, JR Henderson Grade 5 through 8 students participated in a full-day learning workshop that was entirely planned and organized by our student-led Belong and Believe Club. The workshop involved a rotation of centres and activities to help students understand that leadership, respect, and belonging are demonstrated through everyday actions – all of which start with us. We also welcomed guest speaker and Kingstonian Mike Laughin, who spoke to students about perseverance when overcoming fear, self-doubt and challenge. By exploring humility, authenticity, and respect, students were encouraged to reflect on how their words and choices impact others and how they can contribute positively to a safe, inclusive, and supportive school community.
Hot Lunch Reminder
As a reminder, if you haven't yet, be sure to order hot lunch through https://www.lunchboxorders.net. We are offering subs on Tuesdays and pizza on Thursdays. Money raised from hot lunch goes directly back into our school community to support athletics, learning materials, student initiatives and more. Orders are due Sunday at noon for the following week. Finally, if buses are cancelled because of the weather, hot lunch will be cancelled as well. If you have questions, please email jrhschoolcouncil@gmail.com
School Council
The next School Council meeting is on Wednesday March 25th at 6:30pm. Free childcare will be available. Don’t forget - here’s the School Council email address: JRHSchoolCouncil@gmail.com School Council looks forward to hearing feedback and voices from all Henderson community members. Finally, School Council minutes can be found here.
Have a great weekend, Hawks!
