JR Henderson Weekly Update #14 - December 5th, 2025
Good afternoon Henderson Families,
Happy December! ❄️ As we wrap up another busy week, we’re excited to share some wonderful news—our students have achieved great success on the recent EQAO assessments, a testament to their hard work and dedication! Across all classrooms, meaningful learning is happening every day, with students diving into new challenges and celebrating growth. And as the cold weather begins to creep in, our school community continues to shine warmly with energy, curiosity, and achievement.
December Spirit
Throughout the month, we have some exciting spirit initiatives planned. Our Grade 4/5 and 5/6 students have been working hard to ensure that we have some festive door decorating, some whole-school trivia next week and of course, some spirit days. Here's the final week's events:
- Mon Dec 15 : Silver, gold, and sparkle—shine brighter than tinsel!
- Tues Dec 16: Blue and Purple Borealis - glow like the northern lights!
- Wed Dec 17: Green and Red — like the Grinch's Fur and Rudolf's nose!
- Thurs Dec 18: Candy cane stripes—sweet and stylish!
- Fri Dec 19: PJ Day—because even elves love cozy mornings!
EQAO - a lot to celebrate!
On Wednesday, EQAO results were made public by the Ministry of Education. Here at Henderson, we have a lot to celebrate! The improvement over the past several years is incredible. Our teachers and staff have supported excellent progress, helping a greater number of students reach expected level.

KFL&A Public Health Reminders
It's cold and flu season. Please be sure to check KFL&A website for information about preventing the spread of illnesses. Please see here if you are unsure of exclusionary practices.
Jingle Bell Food Drive & Walk, Run or Wheel
Today, our students braved the cold and wind, and enjoyed their walk, run and jingle.
In honour of this fun event, starting Monday December 1st, we are also collecting new, canned or sealed, pre-packaged, food items that will be donated to the Partners in Mission Food Bank. Please double check the expiry date on all products to ensure that items donated are not past the best before date for consumption. Classes will keep a tally and see who can raise the most for people in need. Furthermore, families wishing to donate money directly to the Food Bank can do so here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/11240

LAST CHANCE! Winter Fundraiser
This year we have once again partnered with Cocoa Bistro, a locally owned and operated business, for our winter fundraiser. Proceeds from the sales through their online portal will be given back to the school community. Enjoy a sweet treat or spread the love to others while also supporting our Hawks! The fundraiser opens on November 24th and the last day to order will be December 10th. Order through the website https://cocoabistro.ca and select "levé de fonds JR Henderson Fundraiser" at the checkout. Goodies will be delivered to Henderson on December 16th. We will send the treats home with the students or hold them for pick up should you wish. Happy shopping!
Attention Grade 7 and 8 parents with children with ADHD
Queen's University is offering a free workshop series for the parents or guardians of students in Grades 7 or 8 with learning disabilities or ADHD. Registration is open until January 16th. Space is limited so we recommend registering early!

French Fridays!
French Fridays roll on! We are encouraging all Hawks to engage in as much French as possible on Fridays. We are extending this to parents/guardians and staff too. Not great at French? That's okay - have fun with it and try your best :)
Hot Lunch Reminder
As a reminder, if you haven't yet, be sure to order hot lunch through https://www.lunchboxorders.net. We are offering subs on Tuesdays and pizza on Thursdays. Money raised from hot lunch goes directly back into our school community to support athletics, learning materials, student initiatives and more. Orders are due Sunday at noon for the following week. Finally, if buses are cancelled because of the weather, hot lunch will be cancelled as well. If you have questions, please email jrhschoolcouncil@gmail.com
School Council
The next School Council meeting is on Wednesday January 28th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Free childcare will be available.
