JR Henderson Weekly Update #19 - January 23rd, 2026Screenshot 2025 09 10 060314

Good afternoon Henderson Families,

The weather outside has been frightful for attendance but very conducive to outdoor fun! We truly appreciate families that are able to get their children to school, despite the many snow days this year. We understand this is not possible for all.

Important Traffic Reminders
Please ensure that you do not obstruct the crosswalk at the bus bay. This poses a significant risk to our wonderful crossing guard Norm and all students and families crossing the street. Please also be sure that if you park in front of the school, you do not obstruct the accessible parking space outside of the gym/parking lot.

School Council Meeting Reminder
The next School Council meeting is on Wednesday January 28th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Free childcare will be available. New members are always welcome!

KHSC Candygram Fundraiser
This Valentine’s Day, the Henderson community is looking to give love to those in need. As such, we are selling candygrams from today, Friday January 23rd to Friday February 6th. The cost is $1 per candygram. Students will fill in a kind message for a friend or staff and we will attach a candy to the message. These will be delivered the day before Valentine’s Day, Friday February 13th.

All of the profits from this activity will be used to purchase 20 gift baskets for children who will be in KHSC on Valentine’s Day, so that those not in school still feel love and warmth on this day. This initiative has been planned in consultation with their pediatric unit.

We would also like to note that the school will purchase a candygram for each student so every single Hawk will receive a candygram on February 13th.

How can parents/guardians get involved?
- Encourage your student to send candygrams.  The cost is $1 per candygram and 100% of the profits will support KHSC pediatric in-patients
- If you prefer to make a small donation, please contact jrhen@limestone.on.ca

Reminder - Save The Date - Spring Concert!
We know it's months away but we are going to be honest, we are already excited! The dates for our Spring Concert are:
Tuesday April 14th - Kindergarten concert
Wednesday April 15th - Grade 1 to 3 Spring concert
Thursday April 16th - Grade 4 to 8 Spring concert
Concerts will take place at 2pm in our gym. As we are a large school, we have three separate days for this event. We will remind families closer to the dates.

Grade 5 through 8 Full Day Learning Conference
We are pleased to announce that we are planning a full-day learning workshop for our Grade 5 through 8 students, in recognition of some key areas of skill development that we want to support. The workshop, called Respect in Action, will be held all day on Monday January 26th right here at JR Henderson. The workshop will be planned by our Belong and Believe Club, will involve a rotation of centres and learning to help students understand that leadership, respect, and belonging are demonstrated through everyday actions. We will also have guest speaker Mike Laughin, who will speak to students about perseverance when overcoming fear, self-doubt and challenge. By exploring humility, authenticity, and respect, students will be encouraged to reflect on how their words and choices impact others and how they can contribute positively to a safe, inclusive, and supportive school community. We look forward to providing more updates about this exciting workshop later in the month. This will move to Tuesday, January 27th in the event that busses are cancelled on Monday.

Clubs this month
We also have lots of clubs happening, including Karaoke, chess, Art Space/Quiet Space, Minecraft Club, and our first ever ball hockey team!
