JR Henderson Weekly Update #38 - June 12th, 2026
Good afternoon Henderson Families,
With only 9 academic days left of school, the learning and fun continue! We have many updates as we cruise into the single digits of this academic year.
Mural Update
We are delighted that, after many months of discussions, planning and preparation, the mural that was a joint effort between JR Henderson and Frontenac Secondary School is now completed! The mural has been hung in the front office area and photos can be seen here:
🌈JR Henderson 2026 Pride Month 🌈
Happy Pride! This year, we have educational resources and activities to bring forward the importance of acceptance, love and appreciation for all. Here is our itinerary of events for the month:
Week | Events |
June 8th to 12th | Friday June 12th - School Council Colour Run Saturday June 13th - Pride Parade |
June 15th to 19th | Understanding the flag June 16th Presentations to Classes School Kahoot |
June 22nd to 25th | Spirit Week
|
The Quiet Space Art Space club is looking for help to make a frame for their mural
We are still looking for someone who could build a shallow-frame wooden box that will hold the mural + backing (perhaps Coroplast -corrugated plastic) + 2 side-by-side sheets of plexiglass. Or something similar. The school will cover supplies and we are hoping to mount it to keep as a mural.
It is tempera paint on paper and measures 224 cm long x 220 cm wide.
Please reach out to Mme Doherty (dohertyf@limestone.on.ca) if you are able to help us. Thank you.
Library Book Update!
Wow, Hawks! Library volunteers have been incredibly impressed by the outstanding effort students have made in returning library books before the summer break. This past week alone, 233 books were returned to the library. What an amazing accomplishment!
There are still 113 books currently checked out, so let's keep up the great work and continue returning books to help us prepare for the end of the school year.
Not sure if your student has a library book checked out? Reminder notices will be distributed to students early next week.
Ultimate Frisbee Update
Coach Barkley and Coach LaFrance were delighted with the Henderson Hawks' performance at Thursday's Ultimate Frisbee tournament. Students had been practicing for weeks, learning frisbee drills and sportsmanship. This clearly show! Well done, Hawks!
Garden Adventures!
Our Grade 2 class with M. Leger has been hard at work on the back garden boxes. As well, our Eco Committee has been adding to the front garden and beautifying the school. A huge thank you to Potter's Nursery who provided 10% off the price of plants to support our growing gardens!
TONIGHT! Colour Run - Friday June 12th!
If you haven't been to this event, it's definitely one to attend! All are invited to attend and it's A LOT of fun!
Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast
Have you volunteered for a field trip? Supported hot lunch? Given your time for the Spring Fling? Anyone and everyone who has volunteered at Henderson this year is invited to our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast. It will take place in our Staff Room on Wednesday June 17th from 8:30am until 9:15am. We will have breakfast items, snacks, coffee, tea and best of all, great company! We truly hope you can attend for some socialization and appreciation. See the invite below.
