JR Henderson Weekly Update
Good afternoon Henderson Families,
We sure savoured the sunshine and warmth this week! We also want to remind all families that next week is Terry Fox, as well as Learning Commons Week.
We need your help! Book Fair Volunteers
We are looking for some parent/guardian volunteers to help during the academic day with our Scholastics Book Fair! We are looking for support with set up on Friday Sept 19th in the afternoon, as well as support with selling throughout the week of Sept 22nd to Sept 26th. Volunteer shifts can be as long or short as you can accommodate. Reach out to Emily Ashie to sign up: emily.a.ashie@gmail.com
Don't forget, Library Week is on the horizon! Wednesday is Picture Day and Thursday is PJ Day. Thursday evening is also our Open House. We hope to see all families there!
Terry Fox Day
Our school will celebrate Terry Fox Day on Friday September 26. Terry believed in a world without cancer. Terry was an example of courage, humility, determination, and perseverance. From a young age he exemplified these attributes that made him an inspiration for not only Canada, but the entire world. Our school is grateful for the example of this wonderful Canadian Hero. We are hoping to raise $3,000 this year in support of this great cause. If you are able to donate to help us achieve our goal, please do! https://schools.terryfox.ca/105464/donate
Soccer Update
Coach Elliot and Coach Kivistik visited all Grades 4-6 classes this week to collect names for intramural soccer. We had a huge number of interested students so they will be split into 8 teams. Soccer intramurals will run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, beginning on Monday September 22nd.
Cross Country Update
Cross Country for Grades 3-8 has begun! We had a meeting on Tuesday and our first practice on Thursday. If your child would like to join the team but didn’t come this week they can still join! Practices are every Tuesday and Thursday!
Data Verification
Data Verification forms will be going home throughout this week and next. Please watch for the forms, complete both sides, sign and send them back to school with your student.
Pick Up Reminder
If you are picking your child up after 3:20pm, kindly be reminded that you must go to their normal pick up location. As classes are already packing up and in transition, end of day pick up is out back after 3:20pm.
Open House - Save the Date
We are delighted to announce that we will have our Open House on Thursday September 25th from 5:00pm until 6:30pm - we are looking forward to seeing all of our families and showing off our beautiful school to you! We hope you can join us for a classroom visit.
🍎🥕 Fresh From the FarmFundraiser Coming Soon! 🥔🍏
Get ready to stock up on fresh, locally grown fall vegetables and crisp apples while supporting our school and The Food Sharing Project. Details on how to order will be shared next week, but we wanted to let families know this delicious fundraiser is on the way!
Orange Shirt Day
As the end of September quickly approaches, we wish to remind families that on Tuesday September 30th, we will honour National Day of Truth and Reconciliation by wearing orange shirts and engaging in school-wide learning, rooted in public commemoration, education, and a commitment to reconciliation.
