2026/27 JR Henderson Weekly Update #6
Friday, October 2nd, 2026
Hello Henderson Families,
With October upon us, it's wonderful to see all of the positive changes taking effect here at Henderson. The leaves are changing quickly and this week sure brought the rain! However, it's impossible to slow Hawks down. Enjoy this week's newsletter with updates and information.
EQAO Update
This week, Grade 3s and 6s took home their individual EQAO results. We are delighted to share that our Grade 3 and Grade 6 French Immersion students performed exceptionally well on the Spring 2026 EQAO assessments. Student achievement was above the provincial average in every assessed area, reflecting both strong academic growth and a commitment to excellence. These results are a testament to the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the ongoing support of our families.
In our Grade 3 and 6 English stream, we also worked hard to narrow the gaps and were particularly proud of our Grade 6 results, which highlighted that the longer students remain at Henderson, the stronger the results became. We are also delighted that 97% of Grade 3s wrote the assessment and a whopping 100% wrote in Grade 6. We have confidence that every learner can succeed.
While this is reason to celebrate, the work is not done. We continue to create learning plans and collect data on every student, in every grade, to ensure bespoke success strategies exist. Together, we are creating a learning environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to achieve great things.
Orange Shirt Day
On Wednesday September 30th, Henderson staff and students honoured National Day of Truth and Reconciliation by wearing orange shirts and engaging in school-wide learning, rooted in public commemoration, education, and a commitment to reconciliation. The weather was perfect for the assemblies, with a gentle breeze and light sun keeping us warm. A huge thank you to Mme Lieberman's class for leading the assemblies and for all classes who contributed thoughts, reflections and actions.
Hot Lunch started this week!
We will be starting the year with Subs on Tuesdays and Pizza on Thursdays. Go to https://www.lunchboxorders.net Your login and password would be the same if you participated last year, or go ahead and create one if you didn't. You will have to create your student again and match them to their new teacher.
Orders are due Sunday at noon for the following week.
If buses are cancelled because of the weather, hot lunch will be cancelled as well. Questions, email Mark- jrhschoolcouncil@gmail.com
E-Scooter Reminder
As a reminder, e-scooters are illegal in Kingston and should not be on property, sidewalks or roadways. For more information, please see an informative CBC article here.
Primary Soccer Intramurals
It has been another great week of Primary intramurals! It was great to see so many Grade 1-3 students playing a new sport, creating new friendships and developing their teamwork skills. A shoutout to the grade 5/6 students in Mme Martin's and Mme Lieberman's classes for being coaches and refs for the primary soccer games!
Information from Public Health
Please see information from Southeast Public Health, below. We are always impressed by our Hawk Walkers and look forward to seeing more families take on this October challenge.
